Define the records, permissions and recovery behavior your integration needs before implementation.

Define the job first

  • What business event should start the integration?
  • Which system owns the customer, order and financial record?
  • Which fields need to move, and in which direction?
  • What is the expected result and who investigates a failure?

Prepare a mapping sheet

  • Source record identifier → destination record identifier.
  • Customer and organization association.
  • Vehicle identifiers and transport requirements.
  • Full addresses, contacts and date/time zone handling.
  • Currency, amounts and business status meanings.

Keep identifiers stable. Display names are useful to people but are poor keys for linking records.

Request the supported contract

  • Authentication method and organization scope.
  • Available endpoints, operations and required fields.
  • Pagination, filtering and limits.
  • Validation errors and permission errors.
  • Duplicate prevention or idempotency behavior.
  • Versioning, sandbox access and change-notification process.

Plan for ambiguous outcomes

  1. 1Keep a correlation reference for each logical operation.
  2. 2When a request times out, check whether the destination already created the record.
  3. 3Retry only using the supported duplicate-prevention mechanism.
  4. 4Record the outcome without logging credentials or unnecessary personal data.
  5. 5Give an operator a way to resolve failures that cannot be retried safely.

Before production use

  • Test successful creation, rejected input, missing permission and interrupted requests.
  • Verify the resulting record in the destination system.
  • Confirm monitoring and who owns recovery.
  • Agree on a controlled rollout and a way to stop new writes.
